Adjusting the schedule

Reschedule and resize work right on the timeline — drag a bar to new dates, drag an edge to change its length, and edit any detail in the item dialog.

Once items are on the timeline, you can adjust them by dragging — no dialog needed for a quick date change. Everything saves as you go.

Move an item to new dates

  1. Open the Schedule tab in Gantt view.
  2. Click and drag an item's bar left or right along the timeline.
  3. Release on the new dates. Movement snaps to whole days, and the change saves automatically.

Any dependency arrows reflow to follow the bar as you move it.

Make an item longer or shorter

  1. Hover over a bar and grab its left or right edge.
  2. Drag the edge to change the start or end date.
  3. Release to save — the item's duration updates.

Note

If a date change breaks a dependency (for example, a successor now starts before its predecessor finishes), Foreman flags the arrow in red rather than silently shoving other items around. Adjust the affected items yourself so you stay in control of the dates.

Edit an item's details

For anything beyond dates — title, type, phase, assignees, description, or exact times:

  1. Click the item's bar (or its row in the left pane) to open the item dialog.
  2. Edit any field. Changes autosave a moment after you stop typing.
  3. To change times, turn off All Day and set Start Time / End Time.
  4. To remove the item, click Delete.

The dialog also shows read-only Earliest Start, Latest Finish, and Slack values calculated from the item's dependencies.

Reorder items and phases

In the left pane, drag the handle on an item row to move it within or across phases, or drag a phase header to reorder phases. The bars on the right reflow to match.

Don’t see this?

Dragging, resizing, and editing all require schedule edit access. With view-only access the bars are fixed and the dialog opens read-only.
