Adjusting the schedule

Reschedule and resize work right on the timeline — drag a bar to new dates, drag an edge to change its length, and edit any detail in the task dialog.

Once tasks are on the timeline, you can adjust them by dragging — no dialog needed for a quick date change. Chart edits stay pending until you click Save schedule at the top right.

Move a task to new dates

  1. Open the Schedule tab in Gantt view.
  2. Click and drag a task's bar left or right along the timeline.
  3. Release on the new dates. Movement snaps to whole days; review the updated timeline, then click Save schedule.

Any dependency arrows reflow to follow the bar as you move it.

Make a task longer or shorter

  1. Hover over a bar and grab its left or right edge.
  2. Drag the edge to change the start or end date.
  3. Release — the task's duration updates. Click Save schedule to keep the change.

Note

Chart date edits can shift downstream tasks to preserve their dependencies, durations, and planned gaps. Review the affected work before saving. A dependency whose dates still violate its relationship stays red even if critical-path highlighting is hidden.

Edit cells directly

Click a task's Task, % Complete, Start, End, or Duration cell in the left pane to edit it. Dates are required; duration is a positive whole number of days. These edits, including any linked date changes, stay pending until you click Save schedule.

Note

If you navigate away with pending edits, Foreman asks whether to stay, Leave without saving, or Save & leave. A failed save keeps your changes available to retry.

Edit a task's details

For a task's title, phase, assignees, description, progress, or exact times:

  1. Click the task's bar to open the task dialog.
  2. Edit the fields you need. Phase is optional; choose No phase for a standalone task.
  3. To change times, turn off All Day and set Start Time / End Time.
  4. Click Save inside the dialog. This saves that task's form and already-pending cell edits, not unrelated task or relationship edits. Closing the dialog does not save its new field changes.
  5. To remove the task instead, click Delete.

Reorder tasks and phases

In the left pane, drag the handle on a task row to move it within or across phases, or drag a phase header to reorder phases. The bars on the right reflow to match. Review any confirmation when moving linked work between phases, then click Save schedule to keep the changes.

Don’t see this?

Dragging, resizing, and editing all require schedule edit access. With view-only access the bars are fixed and the dialog opens read-only.
