Managing files
Move, rename, download, and delete files — and learn which deletes offer Undo and which remove takeoff and markup data permanently.
Once files are in Foreman, you can move them between folders, rename them, download them, and delete them — with undo to catch mistakes.
Select rows
The file list behaves like a desktop file browser, so a click picks a row rather than opening it.
- Click a row to select it. Double-click to open a file or look inside a folder. Company files open in a viewer; internal team members open project files in the editor.
- ⌘-click (Ctrl-click on Windows) another row to add it to the selection, or Shift-click to take the whole range from the row you clicked last.
- Press Escape, or click the empty space below the last row, to clear the selection.
Note
Note
Move a file or folder
- Open the row's Row actions menu and choose Move.
- In the Move "…" dialog, double-click a folder that has subfolders — or click the chevron at the end of its row — to look inside it. The breadcrumb along the top jumps back out, and Search folders finds one by name anywhere in the tree.
- Click Move here — on a folder row to drop it in without opening it, or in the dialog's footer to drop it wherever you're currently browsing.
Note
Move a company file into a project
In your company library, open a file's Row actions menu and choose Move to project. Pick a project, and the file moves into that project's files.
Rename a file
Hover the file's row and click the pencil next to its name — or open its Row actions menu and choose Rename. Edit the text and press Enter.
Convert a file to a plan set
A plan set is the one kind of project file Foreman treats differently: for internal team members, only a plan set opens with the takeoff, scale and AI tools; other project files open with markups only. Foreman spots plan sets after project uploads and marks them with a plan-set icon on the row — a regular file carries a plain file icon. Company-library files open in a viewer and aren't automatically classified.
To change a PDF or image's classification, open the row's Row actions menu and choose Convert to plan set — on a plan set the same entry reads Convert to regular file. A choice you make by hand always wins over Foreman's detected one. To use takeoff tools on a company file, move it into a project first.
Download a file
Open the file's Row actions menu and choose Download to save a copy to your computer.
Delete — with undo
- Open the file or folder's Row actions menu and choose Delete.
- Confirm in the dialog. Deleting a folder also removes everything inside it.
- For folders — and for files in your company library — a toast appears with an Undo button. Click it to bring the folder (and its contents) or the file right back.
